Bicycle motocross (BMX) racing is a dynamic and technical cycling discipline in which athletes compete on a specially designed track, aiming to complete the distance as quickly as possible. Competitions are held on a 300-400 metre long track with a start ramp, hills of varying heights, and steep banked turns. Athletes start from a ramp 5 or 8 metres high, and up to 8 participants usually compete on the track at the same time.
BMX bicycles are light, durable, and adapted for intensive riding – with wheels 12–24 inches in diameter, wide tires, a single gear, and no suspension systems. This discipline requires explosive strength, excellent coordination, quick reactions, and precise bike control, making it especially suitable for children and youth and providing a solid foundation for further athletic development in cycling.
